New Zealand abruptly ended their one-day international tour of Pakistan before the start of the first ODI in Rawalpindi on Friday, citing a “security concern”. Plans are in place “for the team’s departure,” the statement read.
This visit has been canceled due to an increase in New Zealand’s government’s threat levels against Pakistan, according to New Zealand Cricket (NZC). A three-match One-Day International series followed by a five-match Twenty20 International series had been scheduled between New Zealand and Pakistan.
New Zealand’s government has issued a security notice, and the BLACKCAPS have decided to cancel their trip to Pakistan.
In a press statement, New Zealand Cricket stated that “Due to an increase in the New Zealand government’s danger level towards Pakistan and advice from NZC security consultants on the ground, the BLACKCAPS have opted to stop the tour.”
Despite the last-minute change, New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White stood by his decision, saying that the players’ well-being comes first.
NZC CEO David White said, “I understand this will be a disappointment for the PCB, who have been excellent hosts, but players safety is important and this is the only responsible alternative.”
