When launching the National Level Start-up Initiative organised by the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) and Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics and IT, claimed that the electronics and BPO sector could add millions of new jobs (ESC).
He claimed that in the next two years, the BPO sector might generate 8 million employment, while the electronics sector alone may produce 2.5 to 3 million jobs. This will significantly increase the level of employment from what it is now.
The three global megatrends that are taking place in the nation were emphasised by Minister Vaishnaw. The desire to become the technological leader, fueled by the nation’s talent pool, inventiveness, high level of computer literacy, and devotion, is the first of these.
“We have now an ecosystem that gives importance to merit and talent, that can power innovations and disruptions,” he said, adding that such a dispensation never existed before.
In order to assist India to become a global technological leader, there is a clear effort to spread cutting-edge technologies in industries like telecom, electronics, railways, and other related fields.
The second trend he emphasised is the manufacturing sector, which is seeing a tremendous number of innovations, particularly in the mobile telephone system, where India has moved from being a net importer to a major exporter in recent years.
“It’s a marvellous achievement which we are trying to emulate in other segments including railways, chemicals, power and semiconductor,” he said, adding that a lot of R&D efforts are currently underway to Fasttrack technological excellence in various segments.
He emphasised diversity which is observable as the third trend. This is accomplished by linking tier 2 and tier 3 cities digitally so that entrepreneurship can be fostered in these cities to increase the development’s bandwidth. 54 of the 64 digital hubs that have been installed are in small towns and cities, which will significantly affect the number of start-ups in the nation.
