Drugs-On-Cruise Case: No Bail For Aryan Khan. Next Stop: High Court.
The court in Mumbai today denied Aryan Khan’s bail in the drugs-on-cruise case in which he was arrested on October 3.
The 23-year-old son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is “Accused No. 1” in the case, has been detained in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail since October 8 and is expected to remain there for the time being.
His lawyers will file a bail application with the Bombay High Court.
On October 2, undercover officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided a rave party on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai, arresting Aryan Khan, his buddy Arbaaz Merchant, model Munmun Dhamecha, and five others. The number of arrests has risen to 20 since then.
Satish Maneshinde and Amit Desai, Aryan Khan’s lawyers, maintained in court that no narcotics were found on him. However, the anti-drugs agency claimed that solid evidence from the celebrity son’s WhatsApp messages showed he had connections with an international cartel and had been sourcing drugs for years.
Many in the shell-shocked film industry consider Aryan Khan’s arrest and repeated bail hearings – once postponed due to court holidays – as illogical and an indication of superstars being targeted.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have yet to make a public remark following their video contact with their imprisoned son last Friday.
Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, as well as filmmakers Farah Khan and Prakash Jha, have expressed their support for the Khans.
The drugs case has also sparked a political feud, with the Maharashtra government accusing the NCB of acting on directives from the Centre by targeting certain individuals.
The BJP, on the other hand, claims that the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra are involved in the so-called Bollywood-drugs mafia.
The anti-drugs agency has previously questioned several celebrities about drug claims related to the inquiry into Sushant Singh Rajput’s horrific death last year.
