An earthquake slammed southern Mexico near Acapulco on Tuesday night, prompting buildings in Mexico City to shake and swing about 200 miles distant.
It was claimed that the quake caused power outages. The city was rocked by a tremor, which was captured on video by residents.
A preliminary magnitude of 7.0 was reported by the US Geological Survey, with the epicenter 8 kilometers (about 5 miles) east-southeast of Pueblo Madero, a vacation city 48 kilometers (30 miles) inland.
From the quake zone, there were no immediate reports.
For about a minute, areas of Mexico City’s capital shook. The damage had not yet been reported.
