Chennai Rains: MK Stalin CM

Chennai Rains: MK Stalin, the state’s chief minister, has directed authorities to speed up relief efforts.

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, directed officials on Sunday to speed up rescue and relief efforts following heavy rains in Chennai and other parts of the state over the last 24 hours.

36 districts received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the state capital receiving the most at 134.29 mm and Ariyalur receiving the least at 0.20 mm.

MK Stalin assessed the situation and observed relief work in areas swamped by the rain, recalling the 2015 deluge.

The Chief Minister paid visits to Kolathur, Perambur, Purasaiwalkam, Kosappet, and Otteri, distributing food and relief supplies to those who had sought refuge in a nearby school.

He also ordered authorities to swiftly begin relief efforts, while also directing officials from the local administration, revenue, and public welfare departments to take steps to prevent waterlogging and the evacuation of people living in low-lying areas.

In relief camps, strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines was also mandated.
