On March 28, 29, trade unions will go on strike across the country

A group of central trade unions has called for a statewide strike on March 28 and 29 to protest government policies that harm workers, farmers, and the general public. A meeting of the Joint Platform of central trade unions was held in Delhi on March 22, 2022, to assess preparations in various states and sectors for the proposed two-day all-India strike on March 28-29, 2022, against the central government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people, and anti-national policies,” according to a statement.

Despite the approaching danger of ESMA, highways, transportation employees, and electrical workers have decided to join the strike, according to the statement.

It added that financial industries, such as banking and insurance, are joining the walkout.

Unions in industries such as coal, steel, oil, telecom, postal, income tax, copper, banks, and insurance, among others, have issued strike letters, according to the report.

It indicated that unions in the trains and defence sectors would mobilize in favour of the strike in hundreds of locations.

The meeting noted that emboldened by the results of the recent state elections, the BJP government at the centre has intensified its attacks on the working class, lowering the interest rate on EPF accumulations to 8.1% from 8.5%, imposing sudden increases in petrol, LPG, kerosene, CNG, and taking steps to implement their monetization programme (PSU land bundles) but being held back only by the worsening inflation and crashing rupee.

According to the report, the meeting “condemned” these policies.

The meeting applauded the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s announcement that they will hold a Rural Bandh on March 28-29.

The meeting urged several state-level unions to join the strike in protest of the federal government’s anti-labour policies, using the four labour regulations as an example.

It was decided to organize a public meeting on March 24th from 5 pm to 6 pm by connecting Union members on the CTUs’ Facebook page.

The Platform of Central Trade Unions and Sectoral Federations and Associations has called on all sectors of society to join the strike, which has been dubbed “Save People, Save Nation.”

INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, and UTUC are the central trade unions that make up this cooperative forum.
